Leila Jeffreys is half British, half Indian and grew up living all over the world with her family, including Papua New Guinea with a possum called Albert and a houseboat in Kashmir. She now resides in Australia where she shares her passion for animals and nature through her photography. Her series of photographs of beautiful wild Cockatoos and Budgerigars are intended to act as a reminder of “the ‘little people’ that also share the planet”. The project took her two years, working with animal rescue and conservation group to take studio portraits of the birds.

Of the project she explains: “Like us they search for food and shelter, they form relationships, they raise offsprings, they defend their territory, they play and they sing. They are magnificent creatures that enrich our lives if you stop to notice them and I believe it’s our responsibility to ensure they will always have a home in the wild.”
