Although slightly ambiguous the title of Kit Willow’s latest collection ‘Surface Elements’, is an exploration of tactile surfaces, namely crocodile skin. In creating her original textile art, Kit wanted to retain textured look of crocodile scales, choosing two crocodile skins from northern Australia for their tone and detail.
The designs were created in three colour ways engineered to fit the pattern pieces of the garments, draped to resemble drying hides. Each of the skin designs were printed directly onto silk, silk stretch crepe and georgette.
Alongside her digital prints, Kit created a more tactile impression of crocodile leather, using a stamped foiling technique on leather.
