The Still Life

canvas

18 years ago Thomas Darnell made the courageous decision to leave his job in Texas and move to the South of France to become an artist – thankfully his risk paid off. Creating these incredible landscapes and still life paintings with uncanny realism. His technique is flawless with each image perfectly considered in terms of light and composition. Perhaps lacking in a sophisticated conceptual meaning, or perhaps lacking pretension, however you want to look at it you can help but be impressed with the level of skill involved and perhaps enjoy the peaceful calm quality of each of his paintings. Of his work Thomas explains:

“My work is inspired by a need to find order and meaning in this beautiful disorder we call life. I choose imagery that makes me feel centered and calm, changing  from very technique-oriented, representational work to more meditative abstract painting because the variety keeps both fresh. What remains consistent in all my work though is the light. It represents energy, spirit and forces we do not see but feel are there all the same: emotions, sounds, thoughts, gravity, vibrations.”
