Viewing Jayson Scott Musson‘s ‘cotton paintings’ I think any Australian will immediately think of iconic knitwear label of yesteryear Coogi – or for a younger generation 90s rapper The Notorious B.I.G. In fact they are Coogi’s! The New York artist, shredded and reworked old sweaters, stretched over canvases. From a distance they look like abstract oil paintings. Dear old Coogi have had bit of a rough time, but we’ve always loved their rich textured knits, perhaps a New York artist can spark their revival or at least renew an appreciation for them.
