Karen Knorr is truly a citizen of the world having been born in Frankfurt, raised in Puerto Rico, and educated in Paris and London. She is now a Professor of Photography at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, Surrey. Since the 1980s much of her art has focused on ideas of cultural heritage, with a particular focus on the northern state of India, Rajasthan. In this series of photos, titled India Song, Karen uses a large format Sinar P3 analogue camera, then scanned to very high resolution. She then photographs the animals in their environments and inserts their image into her interiors photos, creating striking visual images that play on ideas of regalia and myth.
