The Graduate: Think’s Tie & Scarf Competition

Sponsor’s Choice Zoe Pritchard

Eight years ago, we hatched a plan with UTS to run an annual tie and scarf print design competition, challenging students to put their creativity to the test with a real brief, rather than designing something for themselves. What began as a casual call for entries is now firmly embedded as a part of the 2nd year textile syllabus. The winner of the competition is awarded $1,000 from UTS and an internship with us.

The brief is to design for a tie and a scarf that represents the University. It needs to be multinational and wearable design, that can be worn by the Dean, UTS administrative staff, the lecturers or proudly given as a UTS present to international visitors.

This year Charmaine Salvacion was our lucky winner, with her beautiful tie and scarf print titled, “Nexus”, followed by runner up Zoe Pritchard, who won the Sponsor’s Choice award.

Congratulations to Charmaine and Zoe! With UTS reaching it’s 25th year anniversary, we’re excited for next year’s competition, with a design for bow ties to be added to the brief.

Winner Charmaine Salvacion
