We hope everyone had a happy and festive Christmas break and are feeling ready for the new year! For our first post for 2o15 we have a special one to share that we thought would be the perfect start to the new year: bright, colourful and a little futuristic. Born 1980, Rafaël Rozendaal is Dutch-Brazilian and lives and works in New York. Rafaël Rozendaal is a visual artist who uses the internet as his canvas. His artistic practice consists of websites, installations, lenticulars, writings and lectures.
Derived from an algorithm these lenticular paintings consist of four frames, which creates an illusion of depth.Computer software is still needed to create the paintings, with the frame images sliced into strips, interlaced, and printed onto the lenticular sheets. Unlike his GIF animations, when the paintings are viewed in person, the viewer has to physically move around the painting for it to “work.”
