Think Positive Grand Assembly

It’s always a pleasure to work with lovely creative people on their projects and see them evolve from an idea to something real and tangible, out there in the world. Australian artist Hollie Martin worked with Think Positive on her first adventure with textiles. The translation of art to fashion has long been something that has interested her, so this year she decided to take the plunge and transfer her watercolour and acrylic works to silk for the series entitled ‘Grand Assembly’.

While we were lucky enough to watch her work evolve in real time, Curium Magazine has thankfully documented the process for their current issue (now on sale). A magazine dedicated to unearthing creative talent and immersing themselves in the process of creativity, Curium has kindly shared a sneak peek of Hollie’s feature.

‘Grand Assembly’ developed quite organically and altered as the images were produced. Hollie intuitively approached the pieces, then began to make connections. Of the process, Hollie explains: “In the 1960s the farming community of Tenango experienced a great drought, which forced them to think of other ways to create revenue. Embroidery was it. This was something I found inspiring so I looked further into it and thought about how I could pay homage to this beautiful tradition. To create the final works I incorporated my exisiting approach of geometric development and colour application whilst referencing the pattern, colour use and composition from the traditional Otomi designs. ”
