Vasa Mihich is a Yugoslavian painter and sculptor who settled in Los Angeles in the 1960s. Europeans tend to look as US urban metropolises as inferior to the regal old-world architecture of their cityscapes. It’s flat concrete urban expanse does not compare to elaborate architectural history of Europe. But LA has it’s own special qualities, which Vasa saw: “In Los Angeles, this kind of freedom—artistic freedom—to be specific, you just find it here. It’s the light. It’s the people. It’s the space. It’s a wild town. I just like it. I just like it.” Here he explored a new side to his art, exploring the joys of minimalism.
