Drips & Bursts

Takuro Kuwata is a Japanese potter from Hiroshima. Experimenting with textures and finishes Takuro mixes stones in his clay so when fired it punctures the clay creating what he refers to as “stone bursts”. He also scratches the thickly applied glaze so that when each vessel is fired it cracks and peels. His methods require him to relinquish the power of controlling and creating form, allowing processes of reaction to take hold. Kuwata explains that his goal is: “to create joyful and fun works, by making the most use of the characteristics of the materials”.
